Chief Owolabi Salis Celebrates One Year Anniversary As An Astronaut

The Ikorodu -born, Chief Owolabi Salis, the First Nigerian man to journey into space, today, celebrated a year anniversary of his exploit.

Salis and five others – Allie and Carl Kuehner, Leland Larson, Freddie Rescigno Jr., and Jim Sitkin, successfully made the journey when the Blue Origin, in 2025, successfully launched its 13th human spaceflight, the NS-33 mission, marking another milestone in commercial space travel.

Chief Owolabi Salis is an attorney at Law, politician and certified Public Accountant, based in the US.

Salis and others soared past the Kármán line (100 km / 62 miles) to reach an apogee of 105.2 km (345,044 feet), offering the crew a breathtaking view of Earth and a life-changing experience of weightlessness.

Commemorating the anniversary on his social media handle, Astronaut Salis, praised God for the historic successful trip.

“Praise and Glory to The Soul Maker – the Creator of all lives.

“Exactly a year ago, West Africa (by implication Nigeria) recorded the first Astronaut in the person of Astronaut Owolabi Salis, the 704th Astronaut since the beginning of our planet billions of years ago. Blessings be upon him.

Speaking on the importance of the journey, Salis, said:

“The result of the journey concretized the projects of Astro-Theology and Astro-Democracy”.
